Presentation Learning Centre in Watts, California

The Ballet Folklorico Dance group have been very busy these past few months. In July, they danced for their sister-parish, St James’s, Redondo Beach, California who were celebrating their 130th anniversary. They were delighted to have their photograph taken with Archbishop Jose Gomez, DD who presided at the liturgy.

In August last, they had the privilege of dancing for the Religious Women in their region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles at their annual recognition dinner.

In September, they danced for their parish of San Miguel at their annual parish fiesta in honour of the Archangels. They are now practicing to dance at their upcoming Christmas celebrations, which will include dancing for patients at their local convalescent home. They will also be dancing in the Watts Christmas parade and for the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The group has become a multi-cultural dance group in that they not only perform Mexican pieces, but also delight in performing dances from other cultures. They practice every Thursday for an hour and a half, and make all of their own costumes.

As we approach Presentation Day on 21 November, the joy given to so many by the Ballet Folklorico group reminds us of the joy that Joachim and Anna and all those present must have experienced when, according to tradition, Mary danced upon the third step while entering the Temple in Jerusalem.
