Nano's Pilgrim Artist Comes to Newfoundland!

Ella in the garden!

We were fortunate to have Ella Yates, Nano’s Pilgrim Artist, working with us for two weeks in August this year. She is the muralist who for several years visited Presentation Sites on commission from the Congregational Leadership Team in Monasterevin, Co Kildare, Ireland. The fruits of this time have been fruitfully captured in her book, Nano’s Pilgrim Artist: A Creative Celebration of Venerable Nano Nagle (Red Hen Publishing: Duagh, Co Kerry, Ireland 2015).

Ella has worked with Presentation Schools and students doing ‘Nano Murals’ in England, New Zealand, the Philippines and Tasmania, and has done a ‘Nano mural’ room at An Diseart (Centre of Irish Spirituality and Culture) in Dingle, Co Kerry, Ireland.

The Sisters on our Nano Nagle Floor (our nursing floor in the Motherhouse at St. John’s) had bedrooms which looked out on a concrete retaining wall. This wall has been turned into a beautiful mural. It was definately a multi-purpose project. Many visitors came to look out the different windows as each Sister proudly showed off the view which was “hers”. The Sisters, staff and visitors were animated and much conversation revolved around the growing vista....Ella was well supervised and we were well entertained!

On the rainy days she restored statues from the former St Patrick’s Convent of Mary and Bernadette of Lourdes to be placed on the Motherhouse lawn.

Sister Helena’s 106 Birthday Celebration

Sister Helena Murphy PBVM celebrated her 106 birthday on the 12 September 2017. We anticipated the event with family on 3 September; and on the 12 September, Sisters, Associates and staff joined with her for afternoon tea. Helena is an active member of the Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC) group in the Motherhouse and sings in the Motherhouse Choir, rarely missing a rehersal.

Congratulations and blessings, Sr Helena! (She is in the front row on the right).
