Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan

There are ten community mobilizers who are working together to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the moment, SDG 3 is being worked on, Good Health and SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation. The great emphasis is to work on promoting good health including all types of medicines/drugs to achieve SDG 3. At local community level, many people do not have access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities.

The community leaders have worked on an awareness-raising campaign at the community level and now they are approaching the government offices for advocacy and lobbying for better services.

Sr Shazia and teachers attend workshop on SDGs

After almost a year, there is now great interest in implementation of the SDGs at school level. Some of the schools invited the Sisters to have capacity building workshops with the teachers and to plan some activities to implement SDGs in schools. In three schools the workshops are completed and in the new academic year, the Sisters and teachers have plans to work on SDG 16 to build greater understanding and tolerance among people, which the staff and students hope to model also in their school environment. This is just one effort to promote a more just and peaceful society.
