Friends of Nano are busy in Zimbabwe

Back

12/04/2017

Our three groups regularly meet together to pray, act and celebrate as we continue our mission of Jesus Christ. It is also pleasing to note that in our small ways we are doing something in line with attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Interact Club of Nagle House work on SDG 2: Zero Hunger
We are the Friends of Nano who follow the LIGHT of HER LANTERN and walk in her footsteps. We heard her life story and devotion to the needy, weak and vulnerable... We feel her heart beat-her presence. We experience her love, comfort and generosity right here in the heart of Africa, Zimbabwe.

Matthew 25:35-40

The 2016-2017 Interact Club feed the aged and destitute living at Idawekwako Old People's Home in Marondera with a hot meal every Wednesday during the school term. We visit, entertain them and interact.  With the assistance of the Presentation Sisters here, Friends of Nano and the entire Nagle House family we fundraise to make donations of clothes, blankets and toiletries.

World Water Day

Celebrating World Day of Water with Guruve
Friends of Nano

Addressing SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, Friends of Nano from Harare went to Guruve on 24th March and had the opportunity to be taught by the water engineer of the town explaining how water is purified and distributed.

In school, pupils were taught on importance of water, the use of wetlands and the effects on human behaviour on rainfall patterns. Pupils also wrote poems on World Water Day.

SDG 5: Gender Equality Day

Women’s Day – work done by our 8 year-olds

The theme for the 2017 International Women’s Day was BEING BOLD FOR CHANGE. As teachers we talked to our boys about how Nano Nagle was bold to start schools for the poor and teach the word of God .They were able to give examples of other women in our society and the world at large who have brought change in society. When we had prayer for Friends of Nano, we managed to pray and reflect on what small steps we can take to bring positive change for our children and women who are suffering in society.

SDG 1: NO Poverty

Grade 4 collect clothing for distribution

For our Lent Collection, we got a lot of foodstuffs and clothing for the underprivileged. Our Grade 4 Class distributed part of it on 5th April. The rest of the food stuff is being distributed to two Children’s Homes that care for Disabled Children.
