International Day for the Observance of the Eradication of Poverty 2020

October 15, 2020 |

The United Nations each year marks 17 October as the International Day for the Observance of the Eradication of Poverty. The theme for this year is:

Acting together to achieve social and environmental justice for all.

As part of the International Presentation Association’s (IPA) Strategy for 2020-2022, a specific UN Advocacy Focus – Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children was identified. This advocacy focus will help sharpen emphasis at the UN and achieve greater impact on a global scale.

The Eradication of Poverty is at the heart of Presentation Charism. Each year IPA identifies a project for their Eradication of Poverty Donation. The recipients for the 2020 donations will be the Society’s mission in Papua New Guinea. Financial assistance from the IPA will allow a focus on generational change in regard to gender-based violence. An outline of this project is:

  • Building a network of NGOs currently working in Papua New Guinea and fostering positive working relationships with them
  • Upfront assistance for women and children escaping violence in the home
  • Implementation of education and resource programs targeted at women and children
  • Establishing short term accommodation for women and children fleeing gender-based violence

Supporting this project strengthens the mission of IPA to channel their resources so they can speak and act in partnership with others for global justice. It further assists IPA Membership and Presentation People in fulfilling their commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 1, 5, 10, 16 and 17.

The IPA invite you to join them in prayer for the Eradication of Poverty. The following Reflective Prayer (A Prayer for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence Against Women) was prepared by Richard Rogusz, Justice Contact Queensland.
